Oh look, another bug.

You fell onto me
from a tree
suddenly
so I thought I’d as well
take a picture of thee.

(And come up with a truly bad rhyme,  wehehe!)

Seeking Shakespeare

Now I don’t know why I decided to put my Complete Works of William Shakespeare into my non-fiction and work-related etc books book shelf in my study instead of in the kinda-highbrow-authors-alphabetically-by-last-name shelf in the living room, but let me tell you, upon not discovering Shakespeare where I thought he ought to be I spent a little while contemplating whether one actually needed to source Shakespeare quotes precisely, or whether or not simply stating that “All the perfumes of Arabia…” was from Macbeth, Act 5, Scene 1 and uttered by Lady Macbeth without giving a precise edition and page number might be enough. Where does common knowledge start, and where does it end? How much does academic writing take brain sludge into account?

kinda-highbrow-authors-alphabetically-by-last-name

Yes, yes, facetious and pointless ponderings, I know … I was going to leave the rought source in and to get a copy of Shakespeare from the library at work tomorrow, when I thought to check my non-fiction shelf. And lo and behold, there it was, right between The Oxford Book of English Short Stories and Passionate Minds. (Yes, the sorting system makes sense – to me. If it would to anyone else – who knows… . [Umberto Eco – shelved in three places. But, *shhh*, it works!] [Mostly.]).

non-fiction and work-related &c books (also poetry: top shelf)

In case anyone wonders, the framed piece of paper on the right hand side is a sheet from an old print of the Codex Iustitianus ad vetustorum Exemplarum Recognitus (Code of Justinian, According to the Ancient Authorities).

And now I go source my Shakespeare quote properly.

She’s not sure

She’s not sure she wants
His postcard tucked into her book,
His photo into her wallet,
And memories of him
Tucked into her heart.

So I went to take a look at the dragonboat races, but the best photo I took was of a seagull. Go figure. Photographing dragonboats well is hard, though, because there are only a few places where you have an unobstructed view of the fjord (ships moored in all the other places), and those spots were, not surprisingly, packed with people. So no close-ups of labouring people and flying spray, but merely a scenic photo to give you an impression of what it was like. The event is still going on as I type, I can hear them from up here, but while the fjord is lovely, cold and (not very) deep, I have pages and pages to write before I sleep. (Sorry, Robert Frost. ) Also things to sell on ebay. Out of the house with you, things, out of the house. Leave now, and never come back.

Church and Lightning

And then, you know, it rained a lot. And thundered. &c.

Source: Wetter Online (slight edit by me [guess which one? :-)]).

I’ve been checking the rain radar on wetteronline.de from time to time today, waiting for the bad weather to arrive here and planning my excursions outside around it … it’s gonna get here soon, there’s already the faint rumbling of thunder to be heard in the distance, and the dragon boat practice teams are leaving the water as I type … . But what I really like is how the bad weather just stops at the Danish border. Maybe I should drive over there and have fries on the beach or something, and wait out this storm in the evening sunshine? :) Hmm … .

Had to go into the city to buy some tea and to talk to the VHS this afternoon, and on my way back encountered people who are practicing for the dragon boat cup, which is to be held in Flensburg this weekend. If the weather is average or better this weekend, and I’m ahead of my writing schedule I’ll go and see if I can take some photos of it with my camera – but for now, have a phone photo of one of the trials for it!

Wasp and Ant and Yellow

Contrary to the last ant, which was photographed in Indiana, this is a German ant. Still am no myrmecologist, though … (nor a hymenopterist).

My Lonely Winter

We danced under the
glimmering stars, the
heavens wide with
permission and memories.

Days in languid gardens had
led us to here and to you
fighting while I wait,
looking out from the window
beneath which we danced.

Orion the hunchback keeps
me company through
my lonely winter of
your discontent.
